Flat Shapes
Flat shapes are triangles, circles, squares, trapeziods, ovals, rectangles and rhombuses.
To help support their learning at home:
-
have your child to count the sides and corners of shapes.
Websites for Flat Shapes:
We will discuss cylinders, rectangular prisms, cones, pyramids and cubes.
To help students at home you can:
-
Ask your child to tell you what shape objects in the house are, such as ice cream cones, cans, or boxes
-
Have your child to look at how many sides and vertices (corners) the different 3-dimensional shapes have
Fractions are breaking something into equal parts. We practice dividing things into halves, thirds and fourths.
To support your student at home:
-
Have your child help you cut up a pizza, pie or cake into equal parts
-
Draw shapes and practice dividing them and coloring in 1/3, 1/2, and 1/4.
Creating symmetry involves dividing a shape into two equal parts.
To support this at home students can:
-
Practice cutting their sandwich into equal parts
-
Make many different shapes out of paper and practice creating equal parts
